`Three Kick Rule'

A lawyer went to duck hunting in rural Texas. He shot and dropped a
bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence.
As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his
tractor and asked him what he was doing.
The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and
now I'm going to retrieve it."

The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming
over here."

The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in
theUnited States and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you
and take everything you own.

The old farmer smiled and said," Apparently, you don't know how we
settle disputes in Texas. We settle small disagreements like this with
the "Three Kick Rule."

The lawyer asked, "What is the Three Kick Rule?"

The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, first
I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back
and forth until someone gives up."

The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that
he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local
custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the
attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel toed work
boot onto the lawyer's legs and dropped him to his knees. His second
kick to the midriff then made the lawyer loose his early morning
breakfast.

The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear
end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.

The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his
feet.

Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, Now it's my
turn."

The old farmer smiled and said, "Naaaaaah, I give up now. You can have
the duck."

Passive smoke could give you diabetes

A new study says passive smokers may be at higher risk of developing diabetes.
The American study, published in the British Medical Journal and quoted by many news agencies on Friday, says toxins in cigarette smoke could affect the pancreas, which produces the blood-sugar regulating hormone insulin.
The study, helmed by Professor Thomas Houston of the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Centre in Alabama, USA, assessed 4,572 people in 1985. The same people were tested again in 2000.
In the time period, 22 per cent of the smokers developed glucose intolerance, the medical term for the body's inability to produce insulin. Glucose intolerance is a precursor to diabetes.
Among the non-smokers who were frequently exposed to passive smoke, 17 per cent developed glucose intolerance.
The same percentage was below 12 for those who were not exposed to second-hand smoke.
The scientists said some toxins are more concentrated in passive smoke than what a smoker inhales.
The findings needed to be confirmed by further research, they added.

A store that sells husbands has just opened in New York City , where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE ! You may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the Building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:
Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord.
Floor 2 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, and love kids.
Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, and are extremely good looking.
"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going. She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads...
Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead good looking and help with the housework. "Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!" Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads:
Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak. She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the sign reads:
Floor 6 - You are visitor 4,363,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. Watch your step as you exit the building, and have a nice day!

Journalists Memorial

The Freedom Forum Journalists Memorial, located in Freedom Park, pays tribute to journalists who have died while trying to report the news. The memorial rises above the Potomac River with views of the Washington Monument, the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials and the National Cathedral. As of 2004, the names of 1,528 journalists from around the world are etched on the memorial's glass panels. The memorial is rededicated each year to include the names of journalists who died on the job the previous year.
On May 3, 2005, the names of 78 journalists who died or were killed while on assignment in 2004 were added to the glass panels of the memorial. The rededication ceremony featured remarks by CNN's Judy Woodruff. The Journalists Memorial now honors 1,606 journalists who died covering the news from 1812 through 2004

Dravid third in ICC Test rankings

India are poised to surpass England as the No. 2 team, while match-winning performers Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble moved up the batting charts in the ICC Test rankings after the nine-wicket victory over England at Mohali on Monday.
Dravid's double of 95 and 42 not out, which played a key role in his side's success in the second cricket Test, lifted him three spots and put him behind Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis in the latest rankings for Test batsmen, announced on Tuesday.
Sachin Tendulkar slipped three places, to 15th, after his solitary innings of four at Mohali, while Virender Sehwag, whose unbeaten 76 secured his side's victory on Monday, remained in 10th place.
Kumble is now the leading Indian bowler after his 9-146, including the record 500th wicket, eased him up one place to 12th and saw him overtake Irfan Pathan.
The left-arm fast bowler has slipped two positions to 13th but he has strengthened his hold on fourth spot in the all-rounder's list and is now within striking distance of South Africa's Shaun Pollock.
For England, the Mohali defeat means they have to win the final Test to retain their position as the second-placed side in the ICC Test Championship table and anything less than victory will see India overtake them.
Their players are also under pressure in the player rankings.
A twin failure for Andrew Strauss in Mohali has seen him slip four places to 21st in the batting list and that means England's only representative in the top 20 is the unavailable Marcus Trescothick, in ninth position.
Kevin Pietersen, who scored a first-innings half-century in the Test loss, holds firm in 24th spot, while acting captain Andrew Flintoff is up six places to 26th after a double of 70 and 51 in a losing cause.
Ian Bell is up seven spots to 44th, his highest career ranking to date.
Flintoff is also on his way up in the bowling list, rising one place to seventh position in the LG ICC Player Rankings for bowlers after taking four wickets in Mohali, and although he remains in second spot in the all-rounder's table, he has also picked up rating points in his quest to overhaul Jacques Kallis.
Latest ICC Test Championship rankings:
1 Australia, 2 England, 3 India, 4 Pakistan, 5 New Zealand, 6 South Africa, 7 Sri Lanka, 8 West Indies, 9 Zimbabwe, 10 Bangladesh

The Meaning of colour

The meaning of colour
Colour probably has more significance in every day life in India than anywhere else in the world. India is the land of colour.
Each colour has a significance. A religious meaning too.
And there is an occasion for each rang.
Can you wear black to a wedding? Why is sindhoor red? Why are festival colours red and green. Why is saffron special?
In Hinduism gunas play a special role. They represent the qualities and states of existence. Tamas, sattva and rajas are these three mental states. Interestingly each guna has a color. Sattva is about peace, calm and brightness. It is represented by white. Rajas indicates passion, heat, spirit, energy, dynamism. It is red. And tamas is the least desirable state. It stands for anger, darkness, negativity, lack of energy, inertia. Black is its colour.
Apart from these three colours that directly represent the gunas, each colour has a finer significance.
Red
Lal or red suggest sensuality. But it also symbolizes purity. It actually rides a thin line between both. Red is worn at weddings. It is also the colour of sindhoor and tikkas. Red is about energy and passion. Goddesses Durga and Lakshmi wear red.
Yellow
This too is a colour a bride wears for a wedding. It indicates a bit of chastity and a bit of sensuality. Yellow is the color of Lord Vishnu. Yellow keeps evil away. Yellow attracts a mate. Yellow food can be sacred. Yellow welcomes spring. Farmers may often wear yellow.
Blue
That's Lord Krishna's color. A deep, tantalizing blue. It is a sacred blue and a color of calm. The chakra at the center of the Indian flag is blue
Green
Green indicates fertility. Especially in Maharashtra where it is a wedding colour. It is an earthy color. And a festive hue. A traditional colour and a colour of vitality. It suggests happiness and life. Green is a favourite too with Muslims and Parsis.
Saffron
Saffron is India's most favourite color. Our flag has a saffron band in it. Saffron is a very holy and sacred color. An auspicious color.
White
White represent tranquility. Purity too. Hence it is worn at different occasions to suggest purity. It is also associated with death and rebirth.
Black
Black is not a happy color in India. India does not like black. It is about evil and death. Or a penance. A black mark on a child's forehead keeps evil away. At certain occasions the superstitious do not wear black -- not at weddings or births or by the pregnant. Children are not meant to wear black.

welcome
